How the offline engine works.
What runs on your computer, the complete list of what ever goes online, and the one switch that stops even that. The detail to show anyone who asks.
The question never comes up,
because nothing leaves.
Most dictation tools stream your voice to a company you do not work for. If you are under an NDA, inside a company AI policy, or in a regulated field, that is not a preference question, it is a hard stop. The usual answer is a promise in a privacy policy. This is not that. On the default setup there is no path out of the machine to trust in the first place.
Q3 board memo
For the four partners only. Figures are from the September close.
Revenue came in 6% ahead of plan. Talks on the acquisition are ongoing and the terms are not final.
Wi-Fi goes off first, then the dictation. Nothing about it changes, because dictating never touched the network in the first place.
On the default setup, only four things ever go online, and none of them carries your voice or your words. Offline Lock stops all four.
No telemetry. No analytics. Your history, notes, vocabulary and snippets sit in a database on your own disk, and there is no server of ours for them to sync to. If you want a copy elsewhere, the app writes a backup, locked with your own passphrase, to a folder you choose. And if you turn on encryption, someone who copies the files, or takes the disk out, sees only scrambled data.
Offline Lock switched on in Settings: the card on every screen says so, and the update check is refused, with the reason.
One switch, and it stops going online entirely.
Offline Lock stops Dictate Safe making any outbound connection at all. While it is on, anything that would reach the internet is refused, and the app says so in plain words rather than failing quietly.
Three places to reach it. Settings, the menu bar, and a row on the privacy card that is on every screen.
It asks before it changes anything. Switched on while a cloud provider is selected, it asks first, then moves dictation and cleanup to the models on your computer, so what the screen says always matches what is running.
One click back. Your API key stays saved, so switching it off again is one click.

Hold a key and talk, audio you already have, cleanup, and what we decided not to build.
