How do I expand short phrases into longer text?

Say a short trigger phrase and it becomes longer text you saved in advance, such as an email signature, an address, or anything you always type the same way.

Updated 2026-09-23

A snippet is a short phrase you say that is replaced with a longer block of text. Say “my email”, and it can type your actual email address, every time, exactly as you saved it.

#Create one

  1. Open Snippets in the sidebar.
  2. In Trigger phrase, type the words you will say, for example my email. Two or three words you would never say by accident work best.
  3. In Expands to, type what it should become. It can run over several lines.
  4. Press Add snippet.
You should now see

Dictating the trigger phrase types the expansion instead.

#How matching works

  • It ignores capitals and punctuation. Saying “My Email.” matches a trigger saved as my email, and the full stop stays after the expansion.
  • It does not care how the words were split. A trigger of open ai website still fires when the speech model writes “OpenAI website”.
  • It never fires inside a longer word. A trigger of email does not match while you are saying “emails”.
  • If two triggers could both match, the longer one wins.
Limits

Snippets apply once, to the finished text of a dictation, so with Live typing on you see the trigger words first and the expansion when you finish. No AI is involved, so an expansion is never reworded, whether or not AI cleanup is on.
