How do I delete a dictation for good?
Press its bin, or Select to delete many at once; the text and recording are erased and cannot be recovered, and a marker stays so your counts do not change.
Open History and press the bin on the dictation, or press Select to delete several at once. The text and the recording are erased from your computer and cannot be recovered.
#Delete one, or many
- Open History.
- For one dictation, press its bin. For several, press Select, tick them, or use Select all, and press Delete.
- Confirm.
The row now reads Transcript and recording deleted. There is nothing left to play or copy.
#What is erased, and what stays
The words and the audio are erased, and the space they took on the disk is overwritten rather than only marked free, so they cannot be dug back out of the file. A marker stays in their place, so your totals of dictations and words do not change. The marker holds nothing you said.
To keep your transcripts and delete only the audio, older than an age you choose or all of it, see how to stop keeping recordings.
Deleting cannot be undone. A copy you already pasted somewhere else, or sent, is not affected: this erases what Dictate Safe kept.
Backups you made before deleting it still hold it. Deleting a dictation does not delete it from backups already made, and importing one of those backups on a new computer brings it back. See how old backups are removed.
