How do I activate my license?

On the Account page, press Sign in and finish in your browser, and the app activates itself when you switch back; or enter the license key from your dashboard.

Updated 2026-09-23

Open Account and press Sign in. Your browser opens, you sign in with Google or GitHub, and the app activates itself when you switch back to it. There is nothing to copy or type.

#Steps

  1. Open Dictate Safe and go to Account.
  2. Press Sign in.
  3. Your default browser opens to a sign-in page. Choose Google or GitHub.
  4. After signing in, the browser shows an Open Dictate Safe button. Press it, or approve the prompt asking to open Dictate Safe.
You should now see

Switching back to Dictate Safe shows your account as signed in, with your license active.

If nothing happens after you press Open

Some browsers block the prompt silently instead of showing it. Check your browser’s address bar for a small blocked-popup icon, or copy the link from the confirmation page and paste it directly into a new browser tab.

#Using your license key instead

If you would rather not sign in on a particular computer, or the browser hand-back keeps failing, your license key does the same job. It is on the Downloads page of your dashboard.

  1. Sign in to your dashboard in a browser and copy your license key. It looks like DS-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
  2. Open Dictate Safe and go to Account.
  3. Under Or enter your license key, enter the email address you bought it with and the key, then press Activate. Both are needed: the key on its own is not enough, so a key that ends up in a screenshot or a support message cannot activate anybody else’s computer.
You should now see

The page says Activated for your email address. That is the one moment the key needs the internet; from then on the license is checked on this computer alone.

Limits

Until you activate, your first 25 dictations are free, with no time limit. The Account page counts them.

The link the browser hands to the app is single-use and expires after a few minutes. If it fails partway, go back to the sign-in page and request a fresh one rather than reusing the old link.

A license key counts devices the same way signing in does. If the app says the license is already on its full number of devices, free one from your dashboard first.

If the key and the email address do not match the same license, the app says so without telling you which of the two was wrong. That is deliberate, and it is what stops a key alone being enough for somebody who is not you.
