How do I install it on macOS?

Download the disk image from the Download page, drag the app into Applications, and open it. It is notarized by Apple, and setup starts on first launch.

Download the disk image from the Download page (or the Downloads page of your dashboard), open it, and drag Dictate Safe into Applications. Open it from Applications and guided setup starts. One file works on every Mac, Apple silicon and Intel.

#Install

  1. Download the .dmg file.
  2. Open it, then drag Dictate Safe into the Applications folder.
  3. Open Dictate Safe from Applications, or from Spotlight. The first time, macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet; choose Open. It asks that once about any app from the internet, even one notarized by Apple, as Dictate Safe is.
You should now see

Dictate Safe opens on its guided setup: a welcome, the permissions it needs, a speech model to download, the key you will hold, and a sentence to say so you can watch it work.

#Where it lives after install

The app sits in Applications. Once it is running, its icon appears in the menu bar at the top of the screen, and a small floating icon sits near the bottom of it. Everything it stores, your history, vocabulary, prompts and settings, stays on this Mac. See where your data is stored on this machine.

Limits

Dictate Safe needs macOS 12 or later. See what your computer needs for memory and disk space.

If your Mac is managed by an employer, a security policy can block installing applications at all. That is set by whoever administers the machine, and Dictate Safe cannot override it.
