How do I update it?
It checks when it opens and about once a day, sending only a version number, and tells you when a new version exists; nothing installs until you press Install and restart.
Dictate Safe asks when it opens, and about once a day while it stays open, whether a newer version exists. If one does, you get one notification and a note on the Dictate page. Nothing is installed until you press Install and restart.
#Install an update
Press Install and restart on the Dictate page. Press Later to hide the note for a week. To look for a new version yourself:
- Open Settings → Privacy.
- Under Updates, press Check now. If a newer version exists, the row says so.
- Press Install and restart.
Dictate Safe downloads the update, checks its signature, and restarts on the new version. The same row then reads You are on version followed by the new number.
#What the check sends
A version number, and nothing else: no account, no identifier, and nothing about what you dictate. To stop it asking at all, turn off Check for updates automatically in the same card. You can still press Check now whenever you like.
Offline Lock stops the update check along with every other connection. After it has been on for thirty days, Dictate Safe reminds you that it has not been able to look for a new version, and leaves the choice to you.
Updates are included in your license for as long as you use it. See dictation without a subscription.
