Can AI cleanup run on my own computer?
Download the cleanup model once, about 2.5 GB, on a computer with 16 GB of memory. If yours does not meet that, the switch stays off and says why.
On-device cleanup runs a small language model on your own computer, with nothing sent anywhere. It needs a one-time download of about 2.5 GB, and 16 GB of memory to run.
#Turning it on
- Open AI Models, and in the Cleanup card press Download next to Accurate (4B).
- Open Settings → Cleanup and switch AI cleanup on.
Say a sentence with a correction in it, such as “send it on Monday, sorry, on Tuesday”. It is typed as “send it on Tuesday”.
#If the switch will not turn on
Dictate Safe checks three things before letting you switch cleanup on: the part of the app that runs the model is present, a cleanup model is downloaded, and your computer has enough memory. If any of those is missing, the row says which one, and what to do about it.
The Test speed button at the bottom of the AI Models page corrects one real sentence and times it, so you can see what cleanup costs on your own hardware rather than ours.
16 GB of memory is the floor for on-device cleanup. On a computer with less, cleanup with your own cloud key works instead, and your voice still never leaves your machine: only the finished text is sent. See using your own API key.
