What is this app, and what is it not?
It types what you say into any app, entirely on your computer, with tools for writing to AI; it is not a meeting recorder, a translator or a subscription.
Dictate Safe turns your voice into typed text. Hold a key, speak, let go, and the words appear wherever your cursor already is, in any app. Speech recognition runs on your own computer, so nothing you say has to leave it.
#What it is
- A dictation tool, not an assistant. It types what you say. It does not answer questions or take actions on your behalf.
- Local by default. Speech recognition and the optional AI cleanup both run on your machine, with no account needed to dictate.
- Built for writing to AI tools. A prompt library you search from the floating icon, Code Mode for dictating symbols, and Keep Awake for the long task you walk away from.
- A record of what you said. Every dictation is kept on your machine, searchable and playable, and you can turn a voice note into text the same way.
- Paid once. A license is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
- Mac and Windows. One license covers both, on up to 2 computers.
#What it is not
- Not a meeting recorder. Dictate Safe does not capture system audio or record other people in a call. It hears your own microphone when you choose to dictate, and the audio files you give it yourself.
- Not multilingual. The speech models are English only. Dictating in another language produces English words that sound similar, not a translation.
- Not cloud-first. A cloud provider is available if you add your own API key, but it is off by default and never required.
Limits
There are no team or enterprise features: no shared licenses beyond your own computers, no admin console, and no single sign-on.
