The model download keeps failing
The message says whether the file arrived short, whether it did not match, or whether it could not be reached at all. Here is what each one means, and the fix.
A failed download shows a short message on the AI Models page. Find yours below. In every case, nothing half-finished is left installed.
Download incomplete: got … of … bytes. Nothing was saved. Please try again. Why: The connection dropped before the whole file arrived, so the file was the wrong size and was thrown away.
Fix: Press Download again. A steadier connection helps with the larger models: Small is close to 500 MB and the cleanup model about 2.5 GB.
This download did not match its expected contents and was discarded. Nothing was installed. Why: The file that arrived was not the one Dictate Safe expected. Almost always a connection that dropped and silently reassembled something incomplete, rather than a security problem.
Fix: Press Download again. If it keeps happening, do not use the file, and tell us.
Download failed (404)Why: The file has moved on the site it is served from. This is on our side, not your connection.
Fix: Tell us, and include a report from Generate report.
Offline Lock is on, so this app is not connecting to the internet. Turn it off in Settings to continue. Why: Offline Lock refuses every connection, downloads included.
Fix: Turn it off in Settings → Privacy, download the model, and turn it back on.
#It seems stuck, with no message at all
- Wait. A large model on a slow connection can look frozen for a long stretch before the percentage moves.
- If it has genuinely not moved for several minutes, quit and reopen Dictate Safe.
The model shows as not downloaded, rather than half downloaded, and the Download button is back.
None of this helps with a connection that cannot reach the site at all. If every attempt fails straight away, check whether a firewall or a company network is blocking huggingface.co, where the models are published.
