Getting started
Check what your computer needs, install on macOS or Windows, grant permissions, pick your dictation key, and complete your first dictation.
- How do I dictate for the first time?Hold your dictation key, speak and let go, and the text is typed at your cursor; the first time, guided setup gets you there in five short steps.
- What is this app, and what is it not?It types what you say into any app, entirely on your computer, with tools for writing to AI; it is not a meeting recorder, a translator or a subscription.
- What does my computer need to run it?macOS 12 or newer (Apple Silicon or a 2018 or later Intel Mac) or 64-bit Windows 10 or newer, with 8 GB of memory (16 GB recommended) and 1 GB of free disk.
- How do I install it on macOS?Download the disk image from the Download page, drag the app into Applications, and open it. It is notarized by Apple, and setup starts on first launch.
- How do I install it on Windows?Get it from the Microsoft Store: press Get, then Open. The Store installs it and keeps it up to date, and setup starts the first time you open the app.
- Which permissions does it need, and why?A Mac needs the microphone to hear you and Accessibility to type into apps; on Windows, typing needs no permission and the microphone is a privacy setting.
- How do I change my dictation key?Pick one in Settings, under General. A Mac offers a single key such as Fn as well as a combination; Windows offers F9 (the default) and three combinations.
- How do I update it?It checks when it opens and about once a day, sending only a version number, and tells you when a new version exists; nothing installs until you press Install and restart.
